chocolateIf you haven’t noticed I have been MIA for about two months now. I haven’t blogged much, haven’t twitted much, and generally have just been gone. What have I been up to? EFT!

For some of you, EFT is old news. And some of you may have no idea what EFT is at all. Either way, here’s my story about EFT:

First off all, EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. I ran across EFT years ago. Someone showed me a few printed out pages with acupuncture points on them and a procedure for tapping these points with fingertips to deal with emotional issues. It looked like something that would not work, so I dismissed it.

About three months ago I came across EFT again by way of twitter. I noticed many people were EFT coaches and wondered what EFT was. So I followed a few links and ended up on emofree.com, where I started reading articles by EFT practitioners on their success with EFT.

One article in particular – I can’t find it now unfortunately – struck me. The practitioner was describing rapid healing results from deep emotional issues for a client in three sessions. This sounded intriguing to me. Three sessions to heal a lifetime of trauma sounds good, doesn’t it?

Since I am always looking for ways to speed up emotional healing for myself and my clients, I tracked down the practitioner and set up a session with her. My huge issue was my body’s reaction to chocolate. I loved chocolate and wanted it every day, but my body would react to it in very unpleasant ways. I felt frustrated, at cross purpose and wanted the reactions to stop.

The session lasted 90 minutes. I told the practitioner my issue and she asked me questions and had me repeat phrases after her, while gently tapping with fingertips on points on my head, face and torso. As I repeated after her and tapped, I laughed, cried and had some realizations. It was a nice to have insights spontaneously emerge in the midst of the process. And then the most remarkable things happened.

Somewhere in the midst of the session my craving for chocolate entirely disappeared. I mean completely and totally disappeared without having to use willpower at all. In fact, I could not imagine eating chocolate again. That was astounding to me, and actually still is. And that is how I got hooked on EFT, because anything that is so powerful that it can take a lifetime craving and eliminate it permanently has to be investigated.

By the way, it’s been about three months since that session. I have had chocolate exactly once in an act of defiance. It is not that I was craving it, but more I resented that the craving was gone without my choosing for it to be gone. So I had some chocolate.
I did not enjoy the taste of the chocolate at all. Actually, it was bitter, which I don’t remember ever tasting before. And my body had such a huge reaction to eating that chocolate that I may never eat it again. What’s amazing thought is that I really don’t care. Can you imagine that?
